There
are many treatments that can help to control the effects of whiplash.
First and foremost you must always seek medical advice. There is no
substitute for direct medical advice from either your local A&E or your
GP.
Here we
discuss some of the more common treatment methods that are usually
recommended:
Pain
Killers (medication)
Pain
killers will help you to manage the pain at different times of the day.
You may for example need to take them to ensure a good nights sleep or to
get through the working day whilst your symptoms are at there most
extreme. Certain pain killers will not be appropriate for pregnant women,
people suffering from certain disorders or for children.
Use
of collars
Research has now revealed that wearing a collar for anything but the first
few days may actually delay recovery. It may be sensible to wear the
collar immediately after the accident when symptoms are at their worst but
prolonged use is definitely not recommended by most doctors nowadays.
Again its really about allowing your body to start its own recovery
process and camouflaging the pain is not necessarily the best option.
Manipulation
Manipulation or mobilisation of the spine may help your recovery. This
form of treatment is done by qualified and certified experts such as
chiropractors, physiotherapists and osteopaths. Please visit the following

Other forms of treatments
Many other forms of
treatment can be equally effective for some people. Massage,
electro-therapy, reflexology, aromatherapy, acupuncture and many other
types of complimentary therapy can now be used to good effect.
Exercises
Exercise is can be
extremely good for whiplash type injuries. You can help your body to
recover by getting the neck moving normally again, reducing stiffness and
improving the long term chances of recovery. Speak to your doctor about
the right type of exercises for you and your condition. The sooner you can
start, the better the outcome may be.
Again we stress that you should always consult your doctor before
undergoing this form of treatment.
